
A quarter of die-hard sports fans and college basketball enthusiasts actually seem intrigued by the idea of the sport’s most important games taking place in empty arenas: Twenty-five percent of avid sports fans said they’d be more likely to watch games played without crowds, compared to 13 percent who said they’d be less likely to watch. The results were similar among college basketball fans, with 24 percent saying they’d be more likely to watch and 15 percent saying they’d be less likely to watch.
Among avid men’s college basketball fans, the segment of the population most inclined to watch March Madness in normal circumstances, 32 percent said they would be more likely to tune in for games played in empty arenas. Just 12 percent of avid college basketball fans said they’d be less likely to watch games without crowds on site.
Half of all men’s college basketball fans said the lack of attendance would make them neither more nor less likely to watch.
